We are open minded regarding which map sources we use, as long as they do not directly contradict Tolkien's maps and acheive a quality consistent with the author's work. Our sources include Tolkien's maps (as found in 'L.O.T.R' and 'The Silmarillion'), Strachey's 'Journeys of Frodo', Fonstad's 'The Atlas of Middle Earth', and fan made maps.

The primary source at our current stage of development are Peter C. Fenlon's peerless maps of north western Middle Earth, created for I.C.E's 'Middle-Earth Role Playing' game (M.E.R.P) during the 1980's and published as the 'Northwestern Middle-Earth Map Set'. Additional maps are taken from I.C.E's other works. Sadly this material is now out of print but is still readily available on EBay under a search for 'merp'.

This list of sources will grow as the project proceeds and will no doubt include Peter Jackson's recent films as well as the incorporation of real-world data, for example DEMs of New Zealand.
